 The Bill Hook In Action!

 THE BILL HOOK TM
Hook'em-Hold'em-Land'em
Finally, improve your chances of a hook-up with The “Bill HookTM”. We all know that swords slash before eating the bait.  A Bill Hooked sword can and should be reeled in on a tight drag.  No more pulled hooks!

Tips

Don’t be afraid to use extra teasers and baits- Load it up, make it look like a feast.

Smell is important. Don’t waist your time with plastic smelling lures and gear. Blend up some fresh squid and soak your gear in it for at least two days in the refrigerator. Then place it in the freezer.

Load your baits and lures up with chum. Swords will slash at the squid (bait) once and feel the hook and line and will usually not return. If the squid explodes into a huge cloud of squid cocktail your chances of a second attack from the sword are much better. All pre-rigged baits should come injected with chum.

As in any type of bottom fishing, always turn off your bottom machine once you are in position. Fish will scatter away from being blasted by 1,000 watts of 50 Hz buzzing.

Always test your lighted lures at home first. Set up your bait as you would out on the boat, using glow sticks, glow in the dark or electric lights and put them in a dark windowless room. Observe them after your eyes have adjusted to the dark. ( 2-3 minutes). Many times you will find them to be either too bright or in some cases, as with the glow in the dark products, not bright at all after a few minuets.

Take a look at the live squid videos on “You Tube”!  Or copy and paste this link into your browser <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR15-dUO3OU>

Sometimes the light sticks work better if you crack them 8-12 hours before your trip. Or if they are too bright a couple of wraps of tape will tame them down.

Learn to drop multiple baits. I can’t imagine after all the work; time and money it takes to actually make a good drop that an angler would still drop just single bait.

Place bait on a small circle hook at the bottom of the 30lb drop line. (3 feet from the weight). You will catch Rosies and other smaller bottom dwellers. Their thrashing around won’t break off the weight, but instead the commotion that these fish will make when caught will spark interest from quite a distance away and may cause a strike from a sword.

No suntan lotion, sunscreen, aftershave, perfume or any other smelly bait contaminator should be allowed on the boat!

Advantages

Our sound modules will get the swords attention from at least a distance of 1,500 feet or ¼ mile whereas lights I’d would give a range of 300 feet max. Remember the story of the swords getting stuck in the noisy submersibles?

Our rig can be dropped several hundred feet from the hard or coral bottom thus minimizing greatly the chance of a hang-up or loss of gear.

It is better to drop your ten weights that day in the mud and sand rather than on the fragile coral. Also, break-away weights tend to break off prematurely in the rock and coral.
Stay in the sand!

Greatly improve your chances of a hook-up with the “Billhook”. We all know that swords slash before eating the bait.

A bill hooked sword can and should be reeled in on a tight drag. No more pulled hooks!

No more wasted time with thresher sharks! Most “Billhook” setups will not catch a shark.

Don’t kill small swords. A “Billhook” will not gut hook or needlessly harm swords. Therefore those small swords that should be released are done so with ease. Then the youngster can swim away healthy.

Your rig does not have to be right on the bottom. Swords will rise to the sound – up to the 2nd and even 3rd thermal cline in the daytime. Usually 250-300’ up or 1,100-1,200’ down if you will.

By far, more baits in the water and the ability to attract more fish from farther away.
